Hi everyone! I originally wanted to review the NYX Butter Glosses, but those have been reviewed so many times and I have SO many glosses. Anyway, while I was at Ulta recently, I spotted a small display of these. Unfortunately, they weren’t worked into a permanent shelf spot yet and they only had testers left. I tested out a couple and when I got home I ordered some from ulta.com. I was trying to remember the names of the ones I tested in the store, but it was hectic and I had the kids with me so I honestly couldn’t remember, and the photos online never show true to life colors (although they recently updated it since I made my purchase and the photos are better now!) so I just guessed 🙂 (They have 22 shades to choose from and they retail for $5.99)
I like how these tubes show the colors through a little clear window! So here are my swatches and thoughts…
Lollies is a light pink coral. It is creamy feeling on the lips but defiantly settles into lip lines (like most light lip colors) I really wanted to love this one, but it made me look washed out and I don’t like how it settles on the lips. Maybe it would look better if I used a darker blush and more dramatic eyes?? Will probably be returning this one. Lasted 3 hrs on me with no eating/drinking.
Sweet Tart is a bright Fuchsia raspberry shade. Man oh man, I love this one! It was the most pigmented and applied very evenly. I used to wear only light lip colors and NEVER red or bright, but now I am feeling completely opposite 😀 Lasted about 4 hrs with no eating/drinking and left a subtle pretty stain behind.
Sugar Wafer is a peachy toned nude. This was less pigmented, applied patchy and seriously settled into lip lines and highlighted every flaw. 🙁 I always want to find a great nude, but I am coming to the conclusion that either a.) no nude will ever look good on me OR b.) You need to go higher end to get a nude in a GREAT creamy formula…Oh, well but I will defiantly be returning this one.
Fizzies is a neutral medium red. It is somewhat on the sheer side and I did like 6 swipes to get the pigmentation on the swatch. It applies to lips a little nicer though and it is creamy and smooth. This also lasted about 4 hours and left behind a slight stain. I like this shade but I think I already have some like it so I may bring it back and exchange for a different one…but i’m not sure yet.
Overall: These were hit and miss in my book. They were all creamy feeling on the lips, but the lighter formulas didn’t show well once applied. I did like the 2 red toned ones, they gave great coverage and lasted a standard 4 hours. For the price you can’t go wrong, and they offer a lot of shades to suit every taste! I may exchange some shades I got for others, so I will let you know.
Are any of their 22 shades of Butter Lipstick calling your name? Or is lipstick not your thing?
Thanks so much for stopping by! XO -Kristina
