Welcome to the first edition of “This or That” on The Feminine Files! I will be reviewing and comparing 2 different full coverage foundations today, one drugstore and one high end brand…lets see which one wins!
I have wanted to do a post like this for a while and I finally found the perfect first product. I was almost out of my favorite Covergirl foundation and wanted to get a higher end full coverage foundation. I had heard so many great things about Kat Von D’s Lock-it Tattoo Foundation, so I went to Sephora to get a sample to bring home and test out…i’m glad I did!
Let’s review the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 foundation first. I use the shade 810 and it is pretty good…maybe a TAD dark but the next lightest shade is like 3 shades lighter and I think it would make me look ill. The formula is creamy and slightly runny. (I used the Sephora Powder Brush to apply both of these foundations.) It gives medium to full coverage, blends well and it is slightly “brush stroke-y” but with a little buffing the streaks go away easily. Another plus with the Covergirl foundation is that you can go back and stipple it on over any blemishes and it works great as a concealer without looking heavy. It also lasts all day and doesn’t flake out or look funny on your face by the end of the day. (Average cost: $10.99/1 oz)
Next for the Kat Von D review. I REALLY had high hopes for this foundation after all of the great thing i had heard about it. I honestly thought it might end up being my HG foundation! So, I got a sample of the Kat Von D in the shade Light 44, which is the lightest shade but it was still a bit too dark for me. (Which kind of surprised me because she has like porcelain skin you would think she would make an even lighter option.) Anyway, so aside from the color issue this foundation is VERY thick. It was hard to blend with the brush and it showed a lot of brush stroke lines that were tougher to buff out. Also, when I tried using it like a concealer with the stippling motion, it looks fine at first, but after a few hours I noticed it started to look very cake-y in those areas. I also tried applying it with my beauty blender and it made for a slightly nicer application, BUT not nice enough to make me want to buy a full size…for $34 for 1 oz it was just not worth it in my opinion.
Verdict: “THIS!” (Maybe i’m not a fan of the super FULL coverage like I thought.) The Covergirl takes the cake on this one because it gives the most natural looking medium/full buildable coverage. Plus the price can’t be beat…I can buy 3 Covergirls for the price of 1 Kat Von D. 🙂 Plus the Covergirl has a “built in” primer, which is nice because I rarely use traditional silicone primer because they make me break out. Save your money girls and give Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous a try! (PS Right now at ULTA Covergirl products are BOGO 50% off and you get a free cosmetic bag with a $15 purchase 🙂 )
What do you think of my comparison? Have you tried either of these foundations?
