The Body Shop just released a few new products from their Smoky Poppy collection. The first one I have to show you is the new Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick Universal Shade. This unique product can be used on lips and cheeks to deliver a unique poppy/berry color by reacting to your personal pH level.
Yes, it’s black, but don’t be scared! It goes on slightly blackish the first time you swatch it, but after that its a really gorgeous purple/berry shade (on me at least.) It comes in a twist up stye tube and I do wish the stick was a little less chunky. You might find it difficult to use if you have thin lips. The texture is somewhat dry and it does take quite a few swipes to get the max color. It does cling to dry spots a bit, but if you exfoliate/moisturize first you should be fine. Also, I don’t notice any type of scent/flavor with this so thats a plus for me.
The photo on the left is immediately after swatching, the middle one is after 3 minutes. I don’t know how much I buy into the pH jargon of unique shades, but this is the color it was on me, a very cool purplish berry shade. It seems to be transfer/kiss proof and lasted me an average of 5-6 hrs even with eating and drinking. It also left a light berry stain behind. The texture is mainly matte but not overly drying it has almost a chapstick/waxy type feel so you can still rub your lips together a bit.
When using as a cheek stain, its slightly more difficult. The dry texture and quick setting properties mean you have to be quick. I found it works best if you make an oval around your cheek bone and blend out quickly using a stiff blush brush or your finger. You can get a sheer flush or build it up for a more intense look.
In the above photo I used it as a blush and on my lips. I personally LOVE it, but if you’re not a fan of berry shades I don’t know if I would take a chance on it. I’m not sure the color will adjust much from the results I got. The Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick is .14 oz and it retails for $16. (For reference, Tarte’s LipSurgence tints are .10 oz and $24)
What do you think of this cute little stick? Do you have any interest in trying it?
