Brows. How do you feel about them? Do you never leave the house without having them done, or could you care less? Well, I am usually the latter type of gal, but when I do end up doing them I like it to be as easy and low maintenance as possible.
Yes, I have tried brow pencils and powders, but let’s face it, my brows are pretty damn thin and I find those kinds of products make my brows look to bold/drawn on/clownish (maybe I’m doing it wrong?) and I’m not really a fan of that look. I prefer a much softer, slightly more than natural finished product and that’s where brow gel “mascaras” come in. So, if you have similar preferences to me of if you are just curious to see how these 2 products compare then read on my fine friend…
Benefit Gimme Brow vs Maybelline Brow Drama:
I first had Benefit’s Gimme Brow and really enjoyed using it. However, when Christine from Simple Stine raved about the Maybelline Brow Drama I thought it was at least worthy of a try. Then I thought maybe I should compare them for any curious folks out there! These ingenious little 1-step products are pretty much just what they look like: mascara for your brow hairs. You just brush it on in an upward motion to coat the brow hairs, then swipe across to smooth them out.
One major difference you can see upon first look is the size of the wand. I was a little nervous at first with the Maybelline one because it is almost double the width of my brows. However, if you are not wielding it around like a sword in battle, then you should be fine. Although, I do prefer the size and shape of Benefit’s wand. Also, Benefit’s brush tends to hold more product (and sometimes too much gathers at the base) where as Maybelline’s brush is more sparse and you may have to dip it twice to get enough product on.
Another difference between the 2 is the color. Benefit is only available in 2 shades: Light/Medium (which I have) and Medium/Deep. While Maybelline is available in 5 shades: Clear, Blonde, Auburn, Soft Brown and Deep Brown. As you can see from the swatches above the Maybelline Soft Brown is a medium cool toned brown, while the Benefit Light/Medium is more of a cool taupe shade. Both do seem to work well with my skin tone.
Above, I used 1 light coat on each brow. They look pretty similar on me, but the Benefit one does give a slightly lighter finish, and sometimes I don’t feel like it’s dark enough if I really want to frame my face.
Lastly it comes down to price. Benefit’s Gimme Brow is $22 for .1 oz (although it’s tiny, it does last a good amount of time) and Maybelline’s Brow Drama is $7.99 for .23 oz. While I do like the brush on Benefit better, both the color and price of Maybelline really win me over in this splurge or save battle. I can get pretty much the exact same results for a third of the price (and double the product!)
What say you … have you tried either of these? What kind of brow products (if any) do you prefer?
