I was just thinking yesterday that I had SO MANY sub boxes to review this week! So, I think that this week will officially be “Subscription Box Week” here on The Feminine Files! Plus, I’m going to have lots of other surprises in store so stay tuned…
I’ll be kicking it off by reviewing my March Julep Maven (Pop Collection) Box. March brought a lot of new goodies for us Mavens and I was really excited about getting this box. They debuted new Soft Focus Finish Polishes, a new line of Lipsticks and some new eye liner products this month. I was most excited about the lipstick because their Plush Pout Lip crayons were a total hit for me! Also, the new Soft Focus Finish polishes intrigued me because I really love the Zoya Satin Polishes and these looked very similar and the shades were perfect for Spring.
I chose the Classic with A Twist Box that included 2 polishes and my choice of lipstick. (With a Julep Maven Subscription, you get the option of choosing the color of something whether it be gloss, lipstick, eyeliner, shadow, mascara type each month and this month I chose the color Twirl from their new Lipstick collection.) I also added on Janet (the pink) because I wanted to try more than one of the Soft Focus Finish shades.
LuLu is a soft focus Wisteria Mist. The soft focus polishes have a finish in between a gloss and a matte. I really love the way they look and this gave great coverage in just 2 coats. (Note: You are not supposed to use a top coat with these.)
Jahnavi is described as an Iced Chai Chrome. Honestly, I only took this polish because I was looking for the most affordable way to get a soft focus polish and a Lipstick in the same “bundle”. Metallic polishes really don’t do anything for me, I always find them to be way too streaky no matter how carefully you apply them. I used 2 coats and a top coat.
Light on Your Lips Lipstick:
I chose this lipstick in the color Twirl, a lovely medium rose pink. The case for this lipstick is really awesome quality and it even has a magnetic closure! Unfortunately, that is pretty much where the “good” stops for me. I love the color, but the formula is not that great. It applied unevenly and was also uncomfortable and drying. I don’t know if you can see, but it only applied nicely on my top lip and the outer part of my bottom lip. It would not adhere to the inner part for some reason and it made my lips look dry and withered after an hour or so. It’s too bad because I really love the color. If you want to try some of their lip products, their Plush Pout Crayons are MUCH better in my opinion.
Janet was my add-on pick. Is is a lovely soft focus pale peach pink. In the reviews on Julep.com people didn’t seem to like the consistency, but I didn’t have a problem with it. It was slightly thick and a little bit runny but I always have to do a little cleaning up with nail polish remover no matter what. I used 2 slightly thicker coats and no top coat to maintain the pretty satin finish.
I also did some super simple nail art with these 3 colors. Just a simple flower “dotticure” that is very easy to replicate. I think its a fun nail art look for the upcoming spring season!
Overall, I was kind of meh about this box. I really like the Soft Focus polishes, but the lipstick and other polish were kind of duds for me. Usually Julep puts out really great make-up, so I am hoping this month was kind of a fluke. I paid $26.98 and my box was worth $51.20 (maven pricing.)
