Lipstick is probably my biggest beauty weakness alongside nail polish. I can’t get enough and I am always jonesing to try the latest lip products…lipstick ,gloss, balm, I don’t discriminate. So when I received a package from butter London containing 7 of their new Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon’s, I was so ecstatic and I just couldn’t wait to swatch and share them with you.
So here we are!
These beauties are designed with a 3-in-1 purpose: they have the precision of a liner, the shine of a gloss and the full coverage of a lipstick. The addition of Marula and Mango Seed Oils moisturize the lips and Niacinamide helps maintain the skin barrier for a smoother more even lip tone.
The lip crayons are slim and that makes it pretty easy to get a precise line around lip edges. They also have great coverage and staying power with the darker shades lasting me about 5 hours and the lighter ones (Tea With the Queen & Teddy Boy) lasting about 3. They do have a faint chocolate/mint scent and a light minty tingle when applied to the lips, but it’s not strong or long lasting.
Another great thing about these lip crayons…BUILT.IN.SHARPENERS. Yes, each one of these Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons has a sharpener built right into the cap. It doesn’t get much better than that! It’s nice and sharp and doesn’t waste too much of the lip color when being sharpened. Love it!
Let’s get to the lip swatches, shall we?
Tea With the Queen:
Tea With the Queen is described as a light nice cream. It is on the warm side and a few shades darker than my skin tone, which works pretty well for me. This one was the only crayon that was a little bit less creamy when applying, so you do need to swipe it quite a bit to get opaque color payoff. It is still comfortable on the lips though.
DEFINITION: A highly prestigious invitation extended to important and boring members of the British public.
Primrose Hill Picnic:
Primrose Hill Picnic is described as a tropical pink cream. It’s a bright bold fuchsia pink and I love it! This one left the most stain behind on my lip and hand swatches.
DEFINITION: A modern icon that symbolizes breast cancer awareness.
Teddy Boy is a rosy mauve cream. This one is a great MLBB (my lips but better) shade, great for daytime or office wear!
DEFINITION: British subculture typified by young men wearing dandy-inspired styles from the Edwardian period.
Disco Biscuit is a bright bubblegum pink cream. This cool toned pink is definitely one of my favorites, and it’s very wearable!
Trout Pout is a medium coral cream. This one showed up darker on my more pigmented lips than it did in my hand swatch, which I was pleased about. It’s a great summer color!
DEFINITION: Cruel slang for a woman who has “overdone” the collagen in her lips, leaving her with a rather fishy face.
Toff is described as a red grape cream, which is a great description. It’s a red with brown undertones and I can’t WAIT to wear the heck out of this in the fall! Another favorite.
DEFINITION: A slightly derogatory name for a member of the British upper class.
Ruby Murray is described as a deep berry cream. This looks very similar to Toff in the tube, but it’s a much more vibrant red with berry undertones instead of brown. Beautiful shade!
DEFINITION: Cockney rhyming slang for curry, and one of the most popular singers of the UK and Ireland in the 1950s.
Clockwise from top: Ruby Murray, Toff, Trout Pout, Disco Biscuit, Teddy Boy, Primrose Hill Picnic, Tea With the Queen
I just love that butter London includes those silly little Brit definitions! Overall, I am pretty much obsessed with these lip crayons and I really like all of the colors, including Ladybird (a vibrant orange red) that I had previously reviewed. I would have to say that Disco Biscuit, Trout Pout and Toff are probably my favorites, but it’s so hard to pick!
Wait, don’t go yet! butter London graciously sent doubles and I am going to share the love! I already gave a couple away to friends, but I still have Tea With the Queen, Teddy Boy, Disco Biscuit, Primrose Hill Picnic and Toff to give away to one of you lucky readers! 😀
