TGIF blog friends. I swear, this week has been so trying…there must be a full moon or something! I am so glad to see the weekend again and even though we don’t have any plans it will just be nice to relax around the house.
How is you weekend looking, do you have anything planned?
Today, I have a comparison of my July Ipsy & Birchbox subscriptions. (If you are interested in checking out my past months, you can find those here.) Both of the packages were super cute and summery this month, and I love the print on the Ipsy bag! Both bags offered a great mix of items, and I actually got a bronzer in each bag. Let’s get to the contents and see which one won my heart this month, shall we?
Ipsy July 2015:
The Scoop on Ipsy: $10 a month for 5 samples. You can earn Ipsy Points which you can then redeem in their small shop. The products in the shop are limited and the good ones tend to sell out very quickly, so you have to constantly check back. You can earn 10-15 points for every glam bag item you review. You can also earn 250 points for each person you refer to Ipsy. They also randomly give you 10 points here and there if you share your contents or sneak peek on FB. The items in the shop range from 250, 500, 1000 and sometimes 1500 points. (The 1000/1500 point products are full size.) They also have discount codes for products included in each months glam bag, incase you want to buy the full sizes. If you want to sign up for Ipsy you can use my referral link, and I would really appreciate it!
What I got:
Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer– (deluxe size) This bronzer sample is a very generous size and came in the cutest little compact! It is a shimmering golden brown and it matches my light skin tone very well, which is something I usually struggle with in the bronzer world. I have also been using it as a cheek highlight because it is slightly shimmery. Full size is $30, use code IPSYJULY for 20% off orders on Tarte.com (expires 8/13)
Crown Brush Tweezers– I was really excited about these because I have been meaning to pick up a new pair. They have a very sharp edge and easily grab onto hairs. I like them better than my old ones, thats for sure! They are on sale for $6.99, use code IPSYTWZR30 for 30% off on crownbrush.com (expires 8/31)
Vasanti Brighten Up Exfoliating Cleanser– (.7 oz sample size) This exfoliating cleanser is much like a microdermabrasion scrub. It cleans and smoothes my skin really well and has a great scent. Full size is $34, use code IPSY20 to get 20% off orders at vasanticosmetics.com (offer expires 8/31)
Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 Shadow/ Liner– (full size) I received the color Bronze (though it doesn’t actually say on the package.) This is meant to act as a nice thick liner or smudge able shadow. The color is very pigmented and goes on very smooth…its a nice warm liner that I will probably using a lot in the fall. This retails for $16
Octavio La Playa Sea Salt Spray– (deluxe sample size) I love a good sea salt pray int he summer. This has a wonderfully fresh beachy scent, but It left my hair feeling a little crispy. I’ll try using less next time and see if that helps. Full size is $15.50, use code IPSY&OCTAVIO to receive 30% off + free shipping at octaviomolinahair.com (offer is good until 8/31)
Bonus Item: Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Mandarin– I used 1000 points to get this full size lipstick. It is my first lipstick from Smashbox and I was very pleased! The color Mandarin is a bright warm orange/red. It has a wet/glossy formula that is nearly opaque and lasts at least 4 hours on me without fading or loosing any of it’s glossiness! $20 value
For this photo, I used the Smashbox lipstick, Octavio Sea Salt Spray and Tarte Bronzer.
Birchbox July 2015:
The scoop on Birchbox: $10 a month for 5 samples. Birchbox has really upped its game lately. They recently introduced a Sample Choice where you can pick 1 sample in your box (or sometimes a specially curated box where they show all the contents) but it is while supplies last only. Also, they have a fantastic rewards program! You get 10 points for every item you review in your box every month (100 points = $10.) In turn, you can spend those points in their shop. So every month you basically earn $5 to spend! You also earn points on anything you buy in the store and each $1 spent = 1 point. Pretty awesome. The only “down side” to Birchbox is that most of the samples tend to be on the small side, but mostly are higher quality products/brands. If you want to sign up, please consider using my referral link HERE, thank you!
What I got:
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick– (deluxe sample) I got the color Bella, one of their newer colors for summer. It is a super duper bright opaque pink matte. These lipsticks are tricky to apply, but if you take your time and do it right, they really will last all day! If you apply it to bare lips, you will get more staying power and it will be transfer resistant, but it also feels drier on the lips. If you prep your lips with clear lip balm and let it soak in before applying the lipstick it will feel more comfortable and look less dry, but it will wear off quicker and won’t pass a kiss test. Either way, you only need a small amount! Full size is $22 and is available at Ulta.com. The Birchbox shop also has a mini trio available for $20!
Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum 30 SPF– (sample size) I haven’t used this on my face yet but it is a thin serum like sunscreen that blends really well and soaks into skin fairly quickly without leaving a greasy residue. Full size is a pricy $42 for 1.7 oz.
Juara Radiance Enzyme Scrub– (sample size) This is a creamy, gritty scrub that exfoliates very nicely. It is meant to minimize pores and brighten skin. Also, it can be used as a mask for even better brightening benefits! I can’t find it on the Juara site, but on the Birchbox site it says it’s new! Full size is $38
thebalm Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush– (sample size) This is another reason I wanted this box…the idea of a bronzer/blush sounded so good to me! It is a pink-y – bronze and really warms up your look for summer instead of the same old pink blushers. However, the sample is so tiny, it is really hard to get a normal sized brush in there. I’m sure a full size would be a lot better…speaking of, the full size is $21.
Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray– (deluxe sample) This 2-in-1 spray is meant to add a shiny tousled beachy look to dry hair. It smells so dang good and works really well at creating a easy on the go/ no fuss hairstyle. Full size 8.5 oz is $39
So, NOT taking the awesome Smashbox lipstick into account, which box was my favorite this month?
It is so close this month because a lot of the products were very similar, but I think I am going to go with IPSY! I just love the bronzer, I really needed new tweezers, and the sea salt spray and exfoliator were pretty great as well. I also think the samples were better sized.
What do you think of my choice this month? Have you gotten anything good in your subscription boxes lately?
