Fall is upon us and winter is on its way…here in the northeast anyway. To me, one of the most uncomfortable parts of winter besides being frozen to the bone (and shoveling) is having dry, itchy skin. Now, my face typically doesn’t get dry even in the winter, but I wish I could say the same for my body. My arms and legs, specifically my calves get really dry and pretty itchy when the cold weather hits.
Because of this, I am constantly in search of a great body scrub. Of course, whats good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander, so the qualities I look for in a body scrub may not be the same as you. Here is my ideal body scrub type: gritty, rough exfoliating texture, doesn’t dissolve quickly, not too greasy, hydrating, supple feeling skin afterwards, pleasant scent that lingers on skin, and *mostly* natural ingredients. Recently, and to my surprise, I’ve found a lot of these attributes in the Ahava Smoothing Body Exfoliator!
“This scrub is an age-defying blend of ultra-exfoliating Dead Sea ingredients and Moroccan Argan Shells, Date Kernel, Grape Seeds and Sugar Cane help to smooth the skin, improving micro-circulation and nourishing it for enhanced clarity and radiance.” -ahavaus.com
Ingredients: Glycerin, Sucrose, Propanediol (Corn derived Glycol), Molasses Extract, Maris Aqua (Dead Sea Water), PVP, Macadamia Seed Oil Glecereth-8 Esters, Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salt), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Powder, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Shell Powder, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Cocamide MEA, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate\Dicaprate & Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract, Parfum (Fragrance), Phoenix Dactylifera (Date) Seed Extract, Origanum Vulgare (Oregnao) Leaf Extract, Tris (Tetramethyl Hydroxypiperidinol) Citrate, Limonene, Linalool.
For starters, I love that ingredient list! FYI, all AHAVA products are Paraben, SLS, Petroleum and GMO free and they don’t test on animals.
This particular scrub has a very thick and somewhat sticky feeling texture with a light citrus scent and it’s loaded with grainy salt and bits of Moroccan Argan Shells. It’s too thick to spread on dry skin, and it’s not as rough as I like when I am completely soaked, so I feel that it works best when your skin is slightly damp in the shower. (Pretty much you have to be standing out of the way of the shower stream.) It provides excellent exfoliation when used this way and rinses off so cleanly with no residue whatsoever. The scent lingers for a bit after toweling off, but while my skin does feel super smooth, it’s not as hydrating as I had hoped so I have to follow up with a moisturizer afterwards. However, after moisturizing my skin feels baby soft and it has even helped with bumps on the back of my arms and legs!
So this isn’t the absolute perfect scrub for me, but it’s pretty darn close and I would buy another one of these for sure! I just wish they made it in the Hibiscus & Fig scent because it is TO DIE FOR! The scrub comes in an 8 oz tub and retails for $28. Besides buying it at AHAVAUS.COM, you can find it at Nordstrom (free shipping!), Macy’s and Lord & Taylor.
I just so happened to pick up 2 of these during a BOGO free sale, so I have an extra one to share with one of you lucky readers!
