Ok, I have to admit…my purchase of the new Burt’s Bees Lipstick was totally founded on the basis of the adorable packaging. I mean, how cute is the honeycomb cutout cap with the lipstick shade peeking through? I was seriously hoping the product inside would be just as good.
I have tried many other Burt’s Bees lip products in the past and while I did like most of them, a lot of them have peppermint oil, which is something that I don’t care for, so I am happy to report that these don’t have it! They are, however, made with Moringa Oil, which is derived from a drought-resistant tree in tropical regions and Red Raspberry Seed Oil, known for containing high levels of essential fatty acids.
There are 14 shades available and I really wanted to get Sunset Cruise, a coral/orange shade, and Blush Basin, a pinkish nude but both were sold out. 🙁 So, I opted for some bolder shades with Fuchsia Flood and Juniper Water. Have you noticed the cute trend in water themed names yet?
As far as the packaging goes, it sure is cute but it also feels rather flimsy. It’s made up of a very lightweight (yet recycled) plastic, so I guess I can cut them some slack… The lipsticks themselves seem to have a high moisture content so they are a bit on the sheer side but they can be built up to be almost opaque with a few extra swipes. When I swatched them, they started out patchy and uneven but once on the lips they blend much better. There is a slight fruity scent to these, but it’s nothing offensive…I actually kind of like it!
Fuchsia Flood is a vibrant bubblegum pink, and Juniper Water is a deep wine with very slight brown undertones. Both shades are very comfortable to wear, but the pigment tends to catch onto and highlight any dry spots. The colors last a good 4 hours on me without eating, so they aren’t the longest lasting but at least they are comfortable! I think I am going to have to hunt down those other 2 shades that I wanted…
