I first spotted the new NYX The Plums Pro Lip Cream Palette at Ulta.com and was frequently stalking my local Ulta to see if they had gotten it in yet. Well after a few weeks of that, I decided that that was enough waiting around and just ordered it (plus a few other new NYX goodies) online. I have rarely been disappointed by any NYX lip products that I’ve tried in the past… they are pretty much on top of their lip game. So needless to say, I was hoping this newest lip product would live up to my high expectations.
NYX has released 4 variations of the Pro Lip Cream Palette: The Nudes, The Reds, The Pinks and as you will see here today, The Plums. Each palette contains “6 intensely pigmented lip creams” in what I found to be a semi-matte finish. From my experience with other lip cream palettes such as Stila I expected these to be similar. However they are slightly more on the dry side making application kind of a tough process. I can see it being fine if you are just applying one color for the night, but swatching took longer than I expected mainly because they have to be applied with a lip brush. I tried applying some with my fingers for a quick job, but the result was patchy and not as pigmented as with the brush.
The shades aren’t named, but instead they are labeled 1-6 on a diagram on the back of the palette. As you can see, it’s made up of a wide range of berry hues. Like I said, they were a little dry upon application and during wear, but I didn’t find them to be uncomfortable on the lips. 5 out of the 6 shades were nicely pigmented and applied evenly with the exception of #1 which was unfortunately slightly patchy. It’s mostly only noticeable up close though. I didn’t notice any scent or flavor with these and they lasted about 4-5 hrs on average with light snacking and drinking.
Shades L to R, top to bottom:
- #1- a vampy purple berry (slightly patchy)
- #2- a wine berry/red shade
- #3- a berry fuchsia
- #4- a lilac berry/pink
- #5- a medium warm berry
- #6- a brick red/berry
All in all, this isn’t my most favorite NYX lip product, but if you are a berry lip lover I think it offers a nice amount of shades to please you. It retails for $11.99, so that breaks it down to about $2 per shade which can be nice if you are a budget and want some bang for your buck. My personal favorite shades are #1 (even though it’s patchy), #4 & #5 and you can find it at ulta.com.
