I bought and took pictures of this palette a while ago and I have no idea why its taken me so long to review it! It was released sometime early this year, and I picked it up from Ulta in March. “Back then” strobing was all the rage, but I got it simply for regular highlighting purposes. The pan sizes in the palette are impressive and as per usual from NYX, its affordable and great quality!
Top row from L to R:
- True gold with gold pearl
- Cool toned light pink with shimmer
- Light lavender with shimmer
- Golden pink with shimmer
Bottom row from L to R:
- Light gold/peach with shimmer
- Bronze with gold pearl
- Champagne with shimmer
As you can see, the Strobe of Genius palette has some serious illumination! Luckily, if you use a very light hand you can also get a subtle application if an all out glow isn’t your thing. My swatches are pretty heavy but I did them like that so you can she the colors and tones of each shade. Obviously, you wouldn’t apply them to your face like this unless you were walking down a runway at NYFW or something!
All of the shades are very pigmented and none of them are too powdery. I think the best way to apply them is with a beauty blender because it give a softer, more natural look. If you want a bolder highlight, then a brush would be your best bet. For highlighting under my brow or my cupids bow, I just use my finger.
For this look, I used second shade on the top row. I applied it under my brows, above my cheek bones and on the bridge of my nose. I am also wearing the NYX Ombre Blush in Soft Flush and NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Flutter Kiss. (Which, BTW are 2 other fab products from NYX.)
Overall, I really, really love this palette. Seriously… I use it all the time! The only shade I don’t use very often is the lilac because it is just SO obvious and harder for me to blend. It might work better on porcelain skinned beauties though. I thought I wouldn’t get much use out of the darker shades, however, they are great for creating a warm sun-kissed glow in lieu of blush. ALSO, you can use a lot of these as eyeshadow colors, which gives you even more bang for your buck!
