I am a ColourPop virgin. Yes, this is my very first purchase from the brand. I have been swooning over their gorgeous IG page for what seems like forever, and I finally took the plunge. To be honest, I don’t know what too me so long to try them. I am just going to go with the “I don’t trust myself with pretty makeup and didn’t want to get sucked in” excuse.
Anyway, I did it and here we are. There are SO many gorgeous lipstick and eyeshadows to choose from, and it got a little overwhelming. I ended up getting the Out and About lipstick trio from their Fall Edit collection, so keep on reading to find out what my first impression was!
The Out and About set is $15 and it comes with 2 Ultra Matte’s and 1 Ultra Satin lip color. (Buying the trio saves you $3 because their liquid lipsticks are $6 each.)
Lets start by talking about the Ultra Matte formula. Initially, I detested this matte lip formula. I found it to be incredibly drying and it made my lips look so wrinkly. They were probably the most matte feeling lip formula that I’ve ever tried. However, after talking it over with some of my fellow beauty bloggers, I tried a few of their tricks that definitely helped. I applied lip balm shortly before applying the lipstick. Normally, you aren’t supposed to do this, but it’s literally the only way I can wear them. Also, when applying the lip color be sure to use the thinnest layer possible. I even wipe off the applicator a bit on the lip of the tube to make sure there isn’t too much product. When I used these two tricks, it made the lipstick much more tolerable.
Next up is the Ultra Satin lipstick, which has a far better formula in my opinion. The Ultra Satin’s have a matte finish (meaning not glossy) but they aren’t transfer proof. I think they feel like a typical matte, but are less drying than say the Stila liquid lipsticks. I can tolerate this formula for about 4 hours, then it starts getting a bit too dry and uncomfortable. For the most part though, I like these a LOT better than the Ultra Mattes.
- Viper (Ultra Matte) is a deep dusty rose
- Times Square (Ultra Matte) is a pink beige (yes, I know my photo is missing the s…)
- Baracuda (Ultra Satin) is a warm rusty rose
All in all, I think ColourPop has some of the most gorgeous lip colors available. I am not a big fan of the Ultra Matte formula and probably won’t buy anymore unless the color is to die for. However, I will definitely buy more Ultra Satins, and I have already ordered some Ultra Glossy and Ultra Metallic lipsticks! So, I guess you could say I’m falling down the rabbit hole that is ColourPop. 😀
