For years, The Body Shop has been my trusted go-to for cruelty free body & skin care. You may (or may not) know that they have also been selling makeup for quite some time now. I’m happy to say that I’ve loved just about all of the beauty items that I’ve tried. A few weeks ago, I was sent some of their newest makeup releases for the 2016 Holiday season. Although I am late getting my post up, I have been using a few of these items religiously over the past couple weeks.
Just a reminder, all of The Body Shop’s products (including makeup) are 100% Cruelty Free & Vegetarian. (Some are 100% Vegan.)
Lets start with the new Matte Lipstick. I’m not sure if it was just the color I got, or if it’s the formula in general, but this was probably my least favorite product of the bunch. I received the shade Honolulu Pink which is a warm, medium pink. I appreciate that it has only a very light scent, but it applied too patchy for my liking. Note: using some lip balm underneath did help a bit. I would be willing to try this in other colors though. $12.50
Next up, we have the Eye Color Stick. I received the shade Nevada Gold which is a pale shimmering champagne gold. I LOVE this shadow stick! I am not really an eyeshadow girl, but I have been using it nearly every day. It gives the prettiest hint of color in just a few swipes and it seriously lasts ALL DAY without fading or creasing. Make sure not to swipe it too many times because it can feel a bit heavy if you do. I want this in all the shades now! $15
I also have the Honey Bronze Drops of Sun bronzer, but I didn’t take a product shot of it. To be honest, I haven’t used it yet either. I am just so pale in the winter, any bronzer additive will not match my skin tone. However, this product is designed to add a sun-tinted glow to any moisturizer or foundation (body lotion too.) The more drops you add, the deeper the glow. I love that it has no shimmer, and I can tell from my swatch that it’s a very neutral bronze and not too orange. I’ll be sure to try this in the summer when my body has more color. $20
Now, I’m going to focus on the new Down to Earth eyeshadow palettes. I received 2 palettes, but in all there are five 4 pan palettes and one 8 pan palette available. The cases are a nice sturdy plastic with a large mirror. The lid is also positionable which I think is a must in any kind of palette.
Overall, the quality of the shadows is very nice. The shimmers feel soft with minimal fallout, and the mattes are smooth and pigmented. Also, these shadows can be popped out from the back! I think that is a nice feature for travel or just the convenience of having your favorite shadows all together in one palette.
First, I have the Gray (#3) palette. Maybe I’m going color blind, but these grays seem much more green to me. Either way, I love the colors and they would make for a perfect daytime smoky eye.
Next, I have the Black (#5) palette. I love these shades and they were so pigmented! I used the 2 shades on the left to do my eye look below.
For my makeup, I used the Nevada Gold shadow stick as a primer, 2 shadows from the Black Palette, the Honolulu Pink lipstick, and their All-in-One Blusher in Flushed. For the most part I was extremely happy with these items. I will definitely be heading to my local Body Shop store to check out some other shades of Matte Lipstick and Shadow Sticks!
