Happy Monday morning to you all! I’m excited to start this school week because that means tomorrow is the last day! Yippie, summer here we come. Since I only work at night, my girls and I take a lot of day trips to lakes and parks which is a lot of fun for all of us. Usually though, we will stay home and lounge by the pool which is still a good time.
So today I’m talking about the new (and adorable) Maybelline The City Mini Palettes. I just got around to testing these last week, otherwise they totally would have made it into my Drugstore Favorites round up. I have to say that Maybelline has been killing it with the palettes lately. I am already in love with their Master Blush Palette, and then they come out with these little gems!
These little palettes each contain 6 perfectly curated eyeshadow shades. There is a good variety for daytime and nighttime/fun looks. I, personally prefer a natural eye makeup look and there are definitely a few palettes here that will give a beautiful natural look. Most of the shades in the palettes are shimmers, and a fewer are mattes. The shimmers tended to have a better formula and more pigment than the mattes. Some of the lighter mattes left little to be desired, but overall the majority of the shadows are very nice! * All of my swatches are done over primer and I swiped about 2 times on each swatch.
Downtown Sunrise is a warm toned palette with a peachy vibe. All of the shimmery/metallic shades in this palette had a great formula, but the 2 lighter ones were a bit on the chalky side. I really love the pink and brown shades in this palette.
Concrete Runway is a cool toned palette. All of the shadows preformed well and none of them were too chalky. The taupe matte in this one is stunning. And I have to say that the colors that look silver in the palette actually swatched much more on the warm side as you can see here.
Rooftop Bronzes is a warm toned palette with all shimmer /metallic shades. All of these shades are incredibly gorgeous and have amazing pigmentation. Even though I usually lean toward cool colors for my eyes, I think I’m going to try using this palette out for summer.
Graffiti Pop is a fun palette with a good mix of vibrant and subdued shades. The taupe-y pink shade here is another fave! I wish I were bold enough to use the teal shade because its beautiful. Maybe I’ll use it as a liner. (The white in this palette has more of a sheen to it so it preformed better than the other pale white shades.)
CHILL BRUNCH NEUTRALS
Chill Brunch Neutrals is a slight mix of warm & cool tones with mostly shimmer/metallic shades. The only shade I didn’t like was the white which was very dry & chalky. Despite that, this might be my favorite palette! I love the rose and cool taupe shades.
Urban Jungle is a cool toned gold lovers dream. Most of these shades here were glittery and had some fallout. However, they all have a nice pigmentation and formula. I’m sure this palette would be a smoky eye lovers best friend!
Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised by these palettes. I half expected them to be barely pigmented glittery messes, but thats so not the case! Even though they are all beautiful, I think my favorites are Rooftop Bronzes and Chill Brunch Neutrals, with Downtown Sunrise being a close 3rd.
Do any of the Maybelline The City Mini Palettes catch your eye??
