Today, I have all 5 of the new NYX Contour Intuitive Palettes to share with you! The name is incredibly cute and clever, but since these aren’t really contour palettes I am a bit confused why they chose it. I guess they do help define your face and eyes, so the name kind of works if you look at it that way.
All 5 of the palettes contain 2 highlight shades, 6 eyeshadow shades, and a blush. The eyeshadows are a mix of matte and shimmery/metallic, and all of the blushes are satin/matte. Overall, the formulas were really great with the exception of a few shadows that were dry/chalky or lightly pigmented.
NYX Contour Intuitive Palettes
The Amplify palette is mostly cool toned with a couple of warm toned shadows mixed in. The teal and buttercream matte shades a bit dry and had to be built up to show decent pigmentation. I really liked the cool toned blueish highlight though!
The Warm Zone palette is (spoiler alert!) very warm toned with beautiful metallic copper & gold eyeshadows. The shadows in this palette had the best pigmentation, which is too bad since warm shades usually look horrid on me. Also, the blush and highlights were very smooth and blend-able.
The Plum Metals palette is fairly neutral toned and would work great with all skin tones IMO. This is one of my favorite palettes as everything was pigmented and creamy feeling. The cool dusty rose shadow is so pretty and the shifty warm brown is gorgeous!
The Jewel Queen palette is mostly neutrals with a few pops of bright, fun colors. The blue is the most pigmented shadow out of all the palettes, but I don’t have a clue how to use it! The shimmering fuchsia/purple shadow and peach blush are very lovely too.
SMOKE & PEARLS
The Smoke & Pearls palette is full of warm & cool neutral shades and it’s my second favorite palette. The yellow gold highlight is stunning, and I love most of the shadows and the blush. The off-white matte shadow was the only one that didn’t have great pigmentation.
In general, these palettes are really great. They would be perfect for someone wanting to quickly build their makeup collection because there is so much offered in each palette. However, they are $20 each which seems expensive for NYX. I would suggest waiting until they go on sale at Ulta if you want to save some money.
